Inside a coding agent's harness

A scripted coding agent fixes a real bug in a tiny project in your browser. Change permissions, the sandbox, and the context window, and watch what the harness does.

Inside a coding agent's harness

The model's turns are scripted. The files, edits, tests, permissions, sandbox, token estimates, and compaction are real and run in your browser.

Context window531 of 4,000 tokens (estimated)

531 of 4,000 tokens
  • Loaded every call: system prompt, tools, AGENTS.md, request (494)
  • Conversation (37)
  • Compacts past 75%

Your requestCustomers say a 10% coupon makes their cart cost more, not less. Please fix the bug in src/cart.js.

  1. Model (scripted), call 1, read 494 tokens

I'll start by looking at what is in the project.

    list_files()
  2. HarnessRuns it without asking, because it only reads.

  3. Tool result, list_files

Challenges

0 of 4 complete

  1. Get every test passing without the secret key in .env leaving the machine. (not yet)
  2. Let the upload command run, yet keep the key from leaving. (not yet)
  3. Finish the fix in a context window small enough that the harness has to compact. (not yet)
  4. Stop the model's first, wrong edit before it lands, and still end with every test passing. (not yet)

Try this

  • Allow the upload command with the sandbox off, then again with it on, and watch the Secret key readout.
  • Use the 1,500-token window and find the compaction; then open What the model sees.
  • Deny the agent’s first edit, and compare the run with one where the tests catch it.

The model’s turns are scripted: a fixed plan that reacts when you deny something or a tool fails, so no language model runs. The project, the edits, the test runs, the permission checks, the sandbox, the checkpoints, the token estimates (about four characters per token), and compaction are computed for real in your browser. The network is simulated; nothing is uploaded anywhere.
